Summit on Development of China Shipbuilding Industry & Ocean Engineering 2009 China International Exhibition on Equipment & Technology for Shipbuilding Industry, Ship Designing & Manufacturing 2009
China International Exhibition on Ocean Engineering Equipment & Technology 2009 Report
Market Background
In 2008, Chinese shipbuilding output reached 28.81 million DWT, accounted for 29.5% of the total world market; China has completely overtaken Japan in the three major shipbuilding targets, ranking 2nd in the world.
In 2008, according to the statistics of Chinese relevant department, 1242 Chinese major shipbuilding enterprises created 414.3 billion RMB in total industrial output value, increased by 59.8% year-on-year; the total profit reached 28.34 billion RMB, increased by 50.5% year-on-year; Chinese ship exportation reached 19.36 billion USD, increased by 58.5%.
Chinese government has listed the shipbuilding industry as one of the 10 important sectors. The State Council has approved the “The Adjustment and Revitalization Plans of China Shipping Industry” on Feb.11,2009 (hereinafter referred to as “the Plans”), the Plans pointed out that Chinese shipbuilding output should account for 35% of the total world market till 2011, and the high-tech and high value-added shipbuilding output should account for 20% of total world market.
In the next three years (2009-2011), under the severe situation of the world shipbuilding market, the demand for marine engineering equipment is relatively stable with the annual demand of 40 ~ 50 billion U.S. dollars, mainly from Singapore, South Korea, Europe. Increasing Chinese proportion in the world market share in marine engineering equipment is not only the requirement of challenging financial crisis and creating new economic growth point but also enhancing shipbuilding power and implementing marine strategy. According to “the plans", China's marine engineering equipment should reach to 10% in world market share by the end of 2011.

Over 5000 professional visitors from 21 provinces and cities were covered Chinese major shipyards, ocean equipment manufacturers, the relevant fittings manufacturers, research institutes, colleges and universities, shipbuilding industry parks and foreign trade companies. Meanwhile, several hundreds of oversea professional visitors and end users were from 19 foreign countries, such as Germany, Korea, USA and UK and so on, and a lot of buyers and traders from HongKong Macau and Taiwan regions also visited the exhibition.

Exhibition Information
- Exhibition Area: 6000 sam
- Participating Countries: 9
- Exhibiting Companies: 128
- Total Visitors: over 5000
The total display area reached 6000㎡ including both indoor and outdoor areas. The exhibitors were from America, UK, Japan, German, France, Italy, Norway and China. Among them, Chinese enterprises accounted for 67.9%, Joint Venture and overseas were 20.7% and 11.4% respectively.
The exhibits were mainly contained ocean engineering equipments, such as offshore oil and gas platform, offshore auxiliary ship, underwater technology, equipment and technology for offshore platform, offshore oil and drilling equipment and transmission system; and the equipments and technologies for shipbuilding industry such as lifting machine and transportation equipment, position devices, welding and cutting machine, and auxiliary devices, special machine tools, special tools, and testing instruments, information and control system, washing and coating devices, heavy duty anti-corrosion coatings, digital shipbuilding technology, modular designing technology. About 36.6% of the exhibits were concerning marine engineering technology and equipments.
There are two features about the visitors in 2009. One is the increasing of oversea visitors. Hundreds of oversea professional visitors and users came to our exhibition and forum, who were from 19 countries: German, Singapore, Holland, Japan, Korea, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Iraq, France, Mexico, Norway, Denmark, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Indonesia and HongKong, Taiwan regions. The other feature is that great increasing of the professional visitors who were interested in the ocean engineering and the relevant technology. According to the lottery survey, more than 68.6% of the visitors showed great interests in marine engineering equipment and its future market.
The total visitors were over 5000 persons.
